21 Jul 24  A quick visit to Ancoats.  Cloudy.

The Ashton canal.  Preparations for a new footbridge.

The entrance to the Lampwick Quay apartment block, Old Mill Street.

The Ancoats Hospital and Dispensary building, by Daniel Lewis 1872-74.

It closed in 1989 and remained derelict and partially demolished for many years.

The building was granted Grade II listed status in 1974 and in 2011was listed by the
Manchester Victorian Society as one of the 10 'most at risk' buildings in England and Wales.

After many threats of demolition and a long campaign to save
the building it was eventually redeveloped as apartments.

On a personal note this was my first experience of a hospital when I broke my ankle
aged about twelve after an early attempt at rock climbing in Stamford Park, Ashton.
